I am forever grateful to be able to practice yoga in so many places along my way!
One of my favorite studios is Heartland Yoga in Iowa City, IA.
Each time I walk into the studio, subtly, all of my senses are served;Colorful art, yogic mantras and thebeautiful presence of the instructor who waits to welcome each individual to practice. Not to mention the bright studio that exudes love and peace.
Make Time To Play
I was in town that weekend to enjoy time with a dear friend. We planned to play a little attending the New Moon Yoga Nidra with Fannie Hungerford the next day. Announced as “A sweet, spacious practice to honor the new lunar cycle – simple movement, new moon intentions, and Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is a practice done lying down, so bring your favorite pillow.” I genuinely couldn’t wait!
Yoga Nidra & Letting Go
After filling my soul with rest, good food and great conversation with my friend, I did identify a few things that wouldn’t serve me in the next phase of my journey and would release during practice.
Fannie’s energy completely enthralls me, and she teaches yoga, steeped in tradition, directly from her heart. This practice didn’t disappoint! She brought us in with the breath and simple movement, then led us visually, allowing space for letting go.
Changing Course
Funny thing, though. I was ready to let go – had my “list” and everything. As Fannie guided us through the practice; however, I found building words and phrases flooding my mind. So, I rolled with it, actually leaving with some of the ingredients of my business and life that have been eluding me. Brilliant!!
You never know what you will learn when the mind is allowed space for quiet stillness.
Note: Yoga Nidra, known as yogic sleep, is a meditation and conscious relaxation practice intended to induce total physical, mental, and emotional relaxation.
