National Parks Service Announces 2024 FREE Entry Days

The National Parks Service has just announced their fee-free days for visitors in 2024. This means that anyone can enter any of the 400 American National Parks without paying any admission fees on those specific days.

The fee-free days will be applicable to all national park sites in the United States. Still, they will not apply to user fees, special tours, annual America the Beautiful Passes, or lifetime passes.

Additionally, Gold Star families can receive an annual pass for free, while senior citizens can purchase a lifetime pass at a discounted price.

The fee-free days are an excellent opportunity for national park enthusiasts to visit their favorite parks or discover new ones. The National Park Service encourages everyone to take advantage of the fee-free days and experience the beauty and wonder of America’s national parks.

Some of the most popular national park sites include Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, Arches National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and Joshua Tree, among others.

These parks offer a wide variety of activities, such as hiking, camping, and wildlife watching, and are home to many historic sites and landmarks.

Fun Facts About America's National Parks

National parks are designated by the President of the United States.
Denali National Park in Alaska contains the highest peak in the U.S., Mount McKinley.
The Colorado River runs through Grand Canyon National Park for 277 miles.
In 1929, Grand Teton National Park was established to protect the peaks, and in 1950, it was expanded to include the valley as well.
More than 2,000 unusual rock formations and arches can be found in Arches National Park.
The most extended cave system in the world is found in Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.
In Joshua Tree National Park, there are hundreds of fault lines that are susceptible to earthquakes.
In 2005, a dinosaur footprint was found in Denali National Park.
Each year, more than twice as many people visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as the Grand Canyon National Park.
One of the deepest lakes in the United States can be found in Crater Lake National Park in Oregon.
The Great Sand Dunes National Park is home to North America’s most extensive sand dunes.
In central Arkansas, Hot Springs National Park is the smallest national park, with just over 5,000 acres.

“We want everyone to experience national parks,” said National Park Service Director Chuck Sams. “The entrance fee-free days encourage people to discover the beauty, history and inspiration awaiting them in more than 400 national parks throughout the country.”

2024 NPS Fee-Free Days

The Park Service will waive the entry fee on five occasions in 2024. These include:

January 15 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
April 20 – First Day of National Park Week
June 19 – Juneteenth
August 4 – Great American Outdoors Day
September 28 – National Public Lands Day
November 11 – Veterans Day

The fee-free days were initially established to increase access to national parks. However, most NPS locations are free to enter on any day of the year – only about 100 of the 400+ national parks require an entry fee, ranging in price from $5 to $35.

This money collected is typically used to pay for infrastructure, visitor education programs, habitat restoration projects and other park services from which we benefit.
